The Gluttony Race

First it was KFC’s “Double Down,’’ a 540-calorie sandwich made of bacon,cheese, and sauce, with two pieces of fried chicken in place of bread. Now, IHOPhas entered the gluttony arms race with its limited-edition “Pancake Stackers,’’ a cheesecake lodged between two buttermilk pancakes, covered with fruit compote and whipped topping. IHOP won’t release the calorie count, but says the “Pancake Stackers’’ combo meal, complete with eggs, bacon, and hash browns, will run up 1,250 calories. To put that in perspective: The average person consumes about 2,000 calories per day.
